Mexican Lag in Education

Mexican population has grown more than fivefold in New York in the past two decades. However, according to the census data, there is about 41% of the Mexican between ages 16 to 19 have dropped out of school. This is a large percentage compared to other immigrant group like Chinese. In the article, the author mentions a few reasons that the Mexican immigrants drop out of school because of the language problem, lack of tutoring programs, and family background. It is an important that the government should deal with this issue. As we have learned in class that investing in human capital is an important factor for future career; otherwise, poor is still poor and they cannot improve their lives.
