Evidence of a similar Quiet Revolution present in Japan

The article from BBC news discusses how more Japanese men and women are single (and intend to stay single) than ever before. Many women cite the reason for this as lack of money or the belief that they cannot meet anyone after they turn 25. Many women however said that they prefer single life, which may be a reflection of a trend similar to the one that took place in America during the Quiet Revolution.
Japan, like the US, is a society where traditionally women were expected to not have jobs and work only domestically. In most developed countries there has been a trend of women improving their education and working. This current decrease in Japanese womens desire to get married is probably a reflection of those changes. Like in the US, women in Japan are finding themselves less dependent on getting married as a way to support themselves and are becoming more independent.
