Wage Gap of Men and Women

As noted in lecture, the wage gap between men and women has narrowed greatly as women have become more educated and skilled with goals of building a career. According to the Governmental Accountability Office, women are earning 86 cents per dollar men earn. Why does this gap still exist? The majority of such discussion emphasizes the idea of women achieving wage growth through education, but does not look at the alternative. Would it be that the less educated and skilled women are earning even less than their male counterparts that is essentially creating this gap in data? Or is it really reasonable to believe that perfect equality can never exist?
