The exact reason for most people under 30 to go online

Is the Internet productive in the year 2011?

During 1980s, we saw the productivity slowdown in the U.S. According to Gordon (2000), this slowdown was due to the unproductive computer which helped increase the total factor productivity in sectors other than computer by only 0.02%. The Internet was claimed as well as unproductive since we had limited surfing time as input to produce output.

In the year 2011, it seems like the Internet claimed as unproductive becomes more and more important to individuals. However, with the Internet broadband, the video website, and the social networking, it is stated in the Pew report that 53% of young adults aging between 18 and 29 use the Internet just to pass time and to have fun. So, even now, the Internet still seems to be not that important to the country's productivity growth.
